Dream Catchers |
The Dream Catcher originated with the Chippewa many centuries ago. The dream catcher helps Asibikaashi (Spider Woman) guard against bad dreams each night and bring the sun back each morning. The circle represents the sky the sun must travel, the bead in the web is Asibikaashi, the web is life, and the feathers represent air. Hang the dream catcher in a bedroom and good dreams are caught in the web as bad dreams escape through the center. These dream catchers are hand made one at a time, they are not mass-produced. They're all made using grapevine or willow, feathers and beads. No two are alike. Some are made with a design burned onto leather.
